The Aztecs finished out their league on Saturday with a 38-10 victory over Cal Poly to finish off an undefeated 8-0 Southern California Premiership Championship, and number 3 seed to the USA Rugby National Championships.  

The Aztecs ran in 3 tries in each half in a reasonable, but not overwhelming performance.  The game was marred by a steady wind that made passing, kicking and line outs difficult.  The Aztecs had some strong moments, but overall struggled to put together consistently good phases of play as noted by Coach Matt Sherman, ‘Cal Poly was strong in the set piece, particularly in the line-outs, and he we had some decent moment, but only played well in patches.’

In the B Side match, the Aztecs scored a come from behind victory with a late try by fly-half Joe Sylvestry and then went on to hold out on a 10 minute goal line stand to secure victory.  

The Aztecs next match is a non-conference game vs. defending National Champions BYU, in Provo Utah on Saturday March 27th at 12 pm.

San Diego State will play Bowling Green in the first round of the Collegiate National Playoffs in Santa Barbara, California on Friday April 16th.
